covers time period 850AD-1500AD
this game is a supplement to the old 1st ed Chivalry & Sorcery rpg, but can be used as a "stand alone" game by itself
I have uploaded this rpg because it covers farther back in Japanese history than Bushido does ... and because it covers some things that the Bushido rpg left out, the Mongols, who invaded Japan twice, in 1274 and 1281 ... and things that the Sengoku rpg left out, like the Portuguese ships, the "Black Ships" (with their cannons) that were involved in some battles in Japan ... (the matchlock musket was also introduced to Japan by the Portuguese in 1543 but that was included in Sengoku)
since the game covers all the way back to 850AD, it would be better than Bushido if someone wanted to use things like the Tale of Genji LN and manga as source material to run a game/campaign in the pre-shogunate era Japan
I wrote up a list of some historical info and some easy to access links to various historical happenings ... it is the txt file "historical notes" ... and please remember, those wiki articles have lists of references that can serve as further reading/research material for those who are interested
.
.
the "extra" is made up of the supplements "Vikings, Steppe Nomads, Gaels, and Picts", which contains the info on the Mongols (the steppe nomads, who also invaded Europe after conquering Russia)
... the supplement "Bireme & Galley" which contains info about some of the ships the Portuguese traders were using (including info on cannons and muskets)
... a modern (2000) reprint/update of the original 1st ed rules
... 2 "sourcebooks" which might provide useful additional info that Bushido and Sengoku might not have
.................... there is much more to the Chivalry & Sorcery rpg ... but since the main system and most all of the supplements are designed around European based culture/societies I did not want to overload a torrent for nyaa, which is not European oriented
